Music resonating, lights flashing, and the energized crowd applauded thunderously as models made their way down the 21-meter catwalk in Zabeel hall of the Marriott Al Jaddaf hotel, Dubai.
It was a full house on the final day of Runway Dubai. The fun filled agenda had something inspiring and exciting for every attending guest. The positive energy filled the room from start to finish.
Runway Dubai held its 7th edition at the Marriott Hotel from 6th – 8th November 2019. Founded by Modupe Omonze, Runway Dubai is an annual fashion show that started in 2013, a platform for emerging talent to showcase their work.
Besides being a creative network for the exposure of home grown talent, the show also takes advantage of its popular platform by focusing on social issues. This year, the social campaign centered around 15 year old Isabel Heredia Valle an aspiring model who became the first model with NBIA (a rare, neurogenerative disorder) to walk down the catwalk. History was made once again as Isabel carefully walked down the stage in a stunning, heavily sequined gold gown designed by A-list celebrity designer Giannina Azar.
The theme for the show, fashion meets music launched a trending hash tag on social media. The feature catwalk presentation had individual songs allotted to fit the theme.
Below are songs from the runway which was one of the secrets to the very successful Runway Dubai 2019.
Bohémienne by Hélène Ségara
Youssra Boudchi was the winner of the 2018 sci-fi inspired competition organized by Runway Dubai. Creating a capsule collection was part of an incentive for the winner of the competition. Youssra’s debut on the Runway was unveiled, along with this unique song by Hélène Ségara which set the mood for the innovative designs.
Pledge Your Allegiance by Dream XP
A cover of this track led by Januiri Jones was performed by the choir of the GEMS United School. Their performance really set the mood for patriotism. White Flags were previously placed under seats of attending guests, during the performance, the crowd waved their flags as part of their involvement by participation.
Gold by singer and song writer Serena Laurel
This year’s collection for the annual competition made by various fashion designers and student designers were showcased by the recently released, catchy upbeat song by Serena Laurel, and it was only fitting that the winning design will be worn by the songstress, to her up-coming red carpet event. Serena livestreamed the show, as she was unable to attend. She chose her favorite garment before the end of the show.
Fashion by Lady Gaga
The catwalk had a segment for kids, and “Fashion” by Lady Gaga was on full blast as the crowd erupted, and children from Runway Kids show strutted down the catwalk with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement for being part of the show. Every kid model stole the show with one unique routine or the other. It was enchanting to watch the kids blow kisses at the crowd as they cheered on.
Señorita by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello
A playful collection showcased by plus sized models, who emerged with style and confidence.
Shawn and Camila’s passionate collaboration on the song titled Señorita was a smooth Latin love song, a chart topper, which did wonders to the message of diversity and inclusivity in the fashion world.
Only Time by Enya
Enya’s soothing yet magnetizing song set the catwalk for designer, Lyn Galo. Her collection featured a variety of flowing ballroom dresses made with black lace, embroidered with gold and white trimmings. Some designs had crystals with silver embroidery. The music matched the mood and feel of the entire collection which was totally breathtaking.
Awaken by Damien Escobar
The violins of Awaken by Damien Escobar enlivened designer Rima Benetti’s collection which was vibrant yet sophisticated.
Shoulder capes made from feathers draped tastefully on the models, flowed perfectly well to the dreamy tune that played softly while the models made
their way almost synchronically.
The experience brought guests to a satisfied mood, an understanding of the importance of what music is, to fashion.
The GEMS united school closed the show with a memorable number by
Mr. Januiri Jones music teacher, singer and song writer who performed along with his students, who presented guests with the gift of music, a euphonious sound, an inspiring message of acceptance and inclusion, something to hold on to, till the next show.
