This November, Isabel Heredia Valle a 15-year-old aspiring model with a rare disease opened the show.
The Dominican-Spanish teenager who suffers from NBIA (Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation) disorder, a disease that affects the nervous system which limits the ability to control functions of the body, thereby causing serious disabilities.
Isabela’s mom tells the story of how she used to sing as a little girl, and how she eventually lost the ability to speak due to the disease.
With the hashtag fashion meets music, the 2019 Runway Dubai show delivered performances by GEMS united school and their outstanding music team.
Performer, and music director Januiri Jones led the GEMS choir by sending positive messages to Isabel and children across the world.
A poem that was written by Alicia Hanif, a fashion fan all the way from Guyana was read live, and dedicated to Isabel.
People from all over the world sent their prayers and support for Isabel, it was a truly inspiring event.
Isabel also closed the show with a dress designed by A-list celebrity designer Giannina Azar. The show ended with media houses and Tv stations picking up the inspiring story of the brave girl who is determined to prevail against the odds.
With a combined reach of over 2 million users (including Air Iberia, hoy.com, farandula, Stylefevr and many more, the goal of bringing awareness about this disease has surpassed expectations.
Patron of the show, His Excellency, Sheikh Yaquob Al Ali devoted himself fully, to support the initiative.
